National Tech Excellence Award for Women 2022

I. Core Objective of this Award

To recognize outstanding contribution of women scientist / entrepreneurs in commercializing innovative indigenous technologies, Technology Development Board is launching the National Tech Excellence Award under the following two categories :

A: National Women Scientist Award for Excellence in Translational Research

B: National Women Entrepreneurs Awards

Both the awards will be presented in two distinct categories:

(1) Senior (45 yrs and above)

(2) Young (Below 45 years).

While constituting the awards, the process would inter-alia encompass the various steps as given below:-

• Identify the stalwarts who have made a niche for themselves
• Acknowledge their initiatives & hard work through the innovative products they have developed and establishments they have created
• Applaud the very fact that they have succeeded and survived all odds
• Celebrate their success and let their stories be encouragement for millions.

III. Eligibility criteria:

National Women Scientist Award for Excellence in Translational Research

• Regular position in Indian Institute of repute
• Patents/Technology transfer / licenced to Indian Industry
• Technology commercialized by the industry partner and earning revenue
• Socio-economic impact of the innovation

National Women Entrepreneur Award

• Founder Director/CEO of the Pvt Ltd./ public ltd company*
• Company in technology space
• Innovative product must be successfully commercialized
• Socio-economic impact of the innovative product

*Definition of Women Entrepreneurs:

The Government of India has defined women entrepreneurs as “an enterprise owned and controlled by a woman having a minimum financial interest of at least 51% of the capital and giving at least 51% of the employment generated in the enterprise to women”. Women enterprises can be classified as (i) owned by women, (ii) managed by women and (iii) employing women. The enterprise should be set up under the Companies Act.

In short, women entrepreneurs are those women who think of a business enterprise, initiate it, organise and combine factors of production, operate the enterprise and undertake risks and handle economic uncertainty involved in running it.

National Women Scientist Award for Excellence in translational Research may be applied in either Nomination / Self Nomination mode

Who can nominate:

Head of Department/ Centre, Director of Indian Institutes/ Universities /Members of the SAC(O), DBT; Vice-Chancellors of Universities/ Deemed Universities; Directors of CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DRDO laboratories; Directors of National Research Laboratories etc; Presidents of approved scientific societies and academies of All India Nature; Secretaries of S&T Departments / Ministries such as DST, DBT, DSIR, MES, MOEF, Atomic Energy, Department of Space, New and Renewable Energy, Commerce, Industry, Health & Family Welfare and Human Resource Development and Advisor/ Member (Science) Niti Aayog or equivalent.

Nominations will have to be sent in the prescribed proforma (Annexure).
